Article excerpt

MURWILLUMBAH U14s are back in the winnersa circle with a tight victory over the fancied Tintenbar East Ballina side last week.

The visitors won the toss and batted, scoring 121 off 30 overs. It was good team effort with top contributions from both Tom OaKeefe and Jack Sims scoring 30.

Tintenbar-East Ballina started their run chase well; however, the visiting attack slowed them down mid-way through their innings with Oliver Twohill and Alex Thomson bowling with good control and each taking a wicket.

Tom OaKeefe rounded off a great game with bowling figures of four overs for seven runs, with Jai Dixon taking 2-15 off three overs.

Murwillumbah now travel to Lennox Heads to play at Williams Reserve.

Cudgen U14s lost the toss and found the Ballina batting too strong, with four Ballina boys retiring, to post a score of 4-191 off 30 overs.

Cameron Bartrim claimed two wickets; Corey Kirkham and Lachlan Wylie each took a wicket; while Max Bryant took a terrific catch.

Faced with a huge run chase, the opening batters for Cudgen dug in deep, managing to score 6-167 from 30 overs, falling just 24 runs short of the Ballina total.

Max Bryant (31) and Connor Ziebell (30) retired, with Jaron Wilson (18), Cooper Lowrey (10), Corey Kirkham (19), Cameron Bartrim (23), Lachlan Wylie (10no) and Harrison Gray (4) all contributing to the Cudgen run chase.

This week is the last round before the Christmas break. Cudgen take on Mullumbimby/Brunswick at Cudgen.

In day one of the U16s two-day game at Rabjones Oval, Tintenbar-East Ballina won the toss and elected to bat, accumulating 176 off 50 overs.

The Pottsville wicket-takers were Sam Spencer, Ethan Twohill and Jesse Woods.

The home side is chasing their first victory of the season and will be looking for a good start from opener Matt Quinn.

NOW to the representative scene and the inter-district U14s final between Brunswick Valley and Lismore at Reg Dalton Oval. …
