ASHINGTON manager Gary Middleton is determined his side will 'give it a right good go' against high-flying Spennymoor Town at The Brewery field this afternoon.

"They are on fire but we did well down there last year. Unfortunately, I have a few players out so it's going to be a tough task, but we'll give it our best shot," enthused Middleton.

Dave Molloy, who broke his ankle last Saturday, Phil Bell, Craig Scott and Jonny Godsmark are all sidelined and it's too early for Josh Grey to make his comeback. He hasn't played since injuring his foot at the beginning of the season.

The kick-off has been brought forward to 1pm.

Whitley Bay are third - their highest rating so far - ahead of the visit from sixth-top Bishop Auckland, who have failed to defeat the Seahorses in the last 11 meetings.

"We are a bit of a bogey side for them and long may it continue. After our recent excellent run of form the lads are full of confidence but I'll warn them against getting carried away," said manager Ian Chandler, who reports that Ash Davis could miss the holiday programme.

Newcastle Benfield boss Anthony Woodhouse will hand a debut to David Southern, signed from Sunderland RCA, at Durham City.

Also named is Michael McMullen who impressed when he played his first game last week following a move from Whitley Bay.

Woodhouse observed: "Our performance and fitness levels are a lot better but we need a bit of luck. For instance, we conceded a stoppage-time winner against Dunston UTS last week when we might easily have won the match."

Dunston UTS host Billingham Town and manager Billy Irwin hopes that Lewis Teasdale has recovered from flu. There's less chance though of Stephen Goddard being able to turn out.

Although Billingham Town are embroiled in a relegation battle, they played well holding Shildon to a goalless draw in midweek. …
