HOLD on tightly to any loose items you may have on you and brace yourselves for the surge of the oncoming hordes of people because itas the bargain hunter and shopaholicas favourite time of the year.

The post-Christmas sales are the best time of the year to nab a bargain price on everything retailers have to offer; kicking off the end of year sales in the lead up to the New Year.

Despite retail prices having been dropped quite substantially earlier this year to encourage consumers to buy offline and in store for Christmas, prices will plummet further in todayas sales; where any stores not having a sale will be the odd ones out.

But before you drop everything to race to the shops and bag a bargain, make sure youare savvy about your spending.

Think about what youare purchasing and if you really need it a[pounds sterling] or really want it for that matter.

The summer holidays are referred to as the silly season for a reason and that is namely because people tend to lose their heads in the excitement of the holiday and all it has to offer.

They say it is the season to be jolly and I love a little retail therapy as much as the next person, (probably more so) however saving top dollar on an item you donat even want or wonat actually use is still costing you money in the long run.

Prevent yourself from spending your hard earned savings on bargains you ajust canat live withouta by writing a list of items you wish to snap up in the sales prior to hitting the shops.

If that sounds like taking all the fun out of the event for you, instead try allotting yourself a budget to make yourself spend your money more wisely.

It may sound like a total killjoy, but budgeting before you let yourself loose in the shops will save your hip pocket along with the retail regret felt by many in the wake of the end of year sales blitz.

Purchase items you need or have been saving for at the end of year sales as well, as it is the cheapest time of the year and will ensure you leave the war zone of the shopping centre as one happy consumer. …
