A SATANIST sex offender has been jailed for a year after he tried to hide his true identity from police.

Garry Dover-Afflick is on the Sex Offenders' Register for life for abusing young boys and is barred from giving a false name under the order.

However in June this year the 46-year-old was in a gang of three when police made a stop check on Norton Street and gave his name as Garry Johnson.

Teesside Crown Court heard that he did provide the officer with his real date of birth and address, but was trying to stop his cohorts learning of his past.

He was later arrested and charged with breaching the terms of his order.

His barrister Paul Abrahams said: "This is not an out-and-out attempt at avoiding the authorities. If he was doing that he would have given a different date of birth and address."

Dover-Afflick, formerly of Sunnybrow Avenue, Billingham, pleaded guilty to the breach.

Judge Peter Bowers jailed him for 12 months.

After the court hearing Cleveland Police's head of public protection, Detective Chief Inspector Jason Dickson said: "Sex offenders in the community are subject to a number of conditions and restrictions. …
