Jobs Lost as Store, Grower Shut Doors; IGA Supermarket, Basacar Produce Close Down

TWO well-known Bundaberg businesses buckled amid challenging economic conditions, leading to the loss of nearly 80 jobs.

In the month of April, the Cornetts IGA store at Sugarland Shoppingtown announced it would close its doors, and agricultural enterprise Basacar Produce entered into voluntary administration.

More than 35 employees began a nervous wait when long-established local business Cornetts IGA closed its store at Sugarland Shoppingtown on April 20.

In a statement to the NewsMail, Cornetts CEO Graham Booysen said the closure was part of a wider restructure of operations and could not be avoided.

Booysen believed the storeCOs former location at the shopping centre had played a role in its demise.
