Lincoln Goes Large at the Beck

Article excerpt

ROB Lincoln has hit the big fish trail at LOCKWOOD BECK with a stunning 11lb 14oz rainbow.

There are a lot of large trout in the reservoir, and while anglers have seen them, and hooked and lost a few, Rob is the first angler for several weeks to get the better of one of the big ones.

He was fishing from the bank at the top of the wood side when the large rainbow took his size 14 CDC Shuttlecock.

John Hewitt caught one of 6lb 12oz on a Black Spider, while Les Davison has caught fish to 4lb on a range of patterns from small nymphs to lures.

Tim Grove caught five trout to 4lb on a range of patterns, while Keith Richards stuck to Foam Beetle and Shipman's to catch 10 trout to 3lb over three trips.

Fish to 7lb have been returned, and although there are some hard spells, in general there is excellent sport.

COLIN Greenwell from Guisborough enjoyed a productive four-hour session at the west end of SCALING DAM, catching his eight fish limit for 13lb on ledgered worm and poly ball.

Alan Marsay from Skinningrove caught the heaviest fish this week, a 3lb 8oz rainbow from the east end of the reservoir on a ledgered PowerBait cocktail.

Over the week 85 anglers caught 110 trout. A further 500 have been stocked.

Top baits include: worm, maggot, Chartreuse and Spring Green PowerBait, Rotex spinner, with fly anglers catching on Black Pennell, Viva, Cat's Whisker, Orange Fritz.

For the remainder of the season, on the main Northumbrian Water venues including Scaling, a PS17 (four fish) permit will be available from midday.

DARREN Grabham won the Theakston's Trophy at LEIGHTON RESERVOIR.

The Middlesbrough angler came out on top with his six fish (the limit) weighing in at 16lb 5oz.

Fellow Teessider Andy Grabham came third with six fish for 14lb 10oz.

ANDY also had a good day at SHARPLEY SPRINGS where he caught 23 trout on pink or yellow flexifloss Bloodworms on floating line. …
