HOME NOW: Halle with mum Deborah UNHURT: Charlie, 15 A SHAKEN mum has told of the horror of hearing her family had been involved in a four-car smash.

Deborah Doddy's twin children, Max and Halle, aged seven, who had just attended the Redcar Boxing Day dip with her husband Andrew and their two brothers, were seriously hurt in the pile-up.

The incident, near Kirkleatham roundabout on the A174 at around 10.15am, left one vehicle wrecked and overturned on its roof, as reported.

Max was flown to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance and sister Halle by the Cleveland Police helicopter.

Deborah, of Briargate, Eston, was at home when the shock call came through from son Charlie, 15, just after the accident.

"That morning I thought I'd lost them," she said. "It was a massive shock - a terrible thing to happen at Christmas time.

"But I'm just so relieved now that they are all right and that the twins and everybody is going to be OK."

Charlie, who escaped unhurt, was deeply shocked and could hardly talk at the scene, said Deborah.

"Charlie was hysterical when he called me," she said. "Then this woman passer-by from another car told me to go straight to the hospital."

The accident also involved an Audi, a Porsche and a Landrover Discovery on the stretch of road which has a 70mph national speed limit.

Twins Max and Halle were the worst hurt.

Deborah said soccer-mad Max was taken first into intensive care with a broken leg, broken collar bone and broken ribs. He was later transferred to a children's ward and is still in hospital. Sister Halle had a deep gash to her head. Both were successfully operated on at James Cook hospital on Thursday. Halle is now back home.

Yesterday both were visited in hospital by Middlesbrough's former X Factor star Amelia Lily. …
