YAMBAaS Alyce Bennett lived every sportspersonas nightmare in the final race of the Telstra Ironwoman Series on Saturday.

In second place and closing in on leader Brodie Moir in the final swim back to shore, Bennett missed a wave and could only watch as four of her rivals swept past in the final hundred metres of the race.

It spoiled what had been a great day of racing by Bennett who had progressed through the elimination-style event to the final at Newcastle.

aI felt I was racing pretty well during the earlier races and thought Iad go pretty well,a Bennett said.

aI sat in second for most of the way and I could see I was catching the leader until I missed a wave.

aThe four behind me went straight past and I paid the price for missing it.a

While lamenting the drop in position, Bennett said it couldave been much worse as she recalled an experience in Portsea last season when she dropped more than 10 places. …
