Worst Is over for Our Hotels, Motels

NEW figures that show Fraser Coast hotels and motels struggled to fill rooms for much of 2012 will not be repeated this year, a leading tourism operator has said.

The latest accommodation data released by Australian Bureau of Statistics showed the Fraser Coast had a room occupancy rate of 53% from July-September 2012, the lowest across the state.

The Fraser Coast also had the lowest occupancy rates in Queensland in the previous quarter at only 43%.

Emeraldene Inn and Eco-Lodge owner Mr Lennon said the low occupancy was not an ongoing trend, with the summer months proving to be a big boost for most accommodation businesses.

Mr Lennon said the outlook for the Fraser Coast industry was positive going into 2013, despite the figures showing a drop in takings year on year.
