Veteran Man Is Fined $600 for Part in Bashing

A YOUNG Veteran man was fined $600 in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday, after he pleaded guilty to his part in the late night gang bashing of two other young men in Gympie, just before Christmas.

Mitchell Lee Burns, 20, of Old Goomboorian Rd, who allegedly broke his thumb in the incident, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting one of the victims while in company, causing bodily harm, between 1 and 1.30am on Saturday, December 22.

The court was told the two victims were walking near the highway when a green Commodore drove past with four male occupants, who yelled at the two pedestrians.

When they yelled back, the car stopped and four males ran across the road, pursued and located the pedestrians and bashed them, before leaving with a female driver. Burns, who allegedly broke his thumb in the incident, was fined $600.

In another matter before the court yesterday, a Gympie man, who crashed his car into a house in Gympie on Boxing Day, was fined $450 for possessing a cannabis pipe found in his vehicle. …
