STICK together and cut out the mistakes - that's the recipe for promotion, according to Jason Steele.

The Boro keeper is in no doubt that his team are more than good enough to reach the Premier League promised land.

But he also knows that talk is cheap and it's up to the players to make sure they'll be in the middle of a top-flight campaign this time next year.

"Every single one of us wants to be in the Premier League," he told the Gazette.

"I was watching the live match at the weekend just like everyone else and I was thinking how great it would be to be playing in the big games on Sky on a Sunday afternoon.

"But we'll only be doing that if we all stick together, the players, the management and the fans - everyone associated with the club.

"I'm sure the supporters were disappointed on Saturday after watching us lose, that's completely understandable.

"But hopefully they'll have seen over the course of the season so far that we're on the right track.

"We will lose the odd game along the way, that's the Championship, but we've got to make sure it doesn't happen too often.

"Our record at the Riverside overall this season has been a lot better and we need to get back to winning ways at home."

One factor common to most of Boro's recent setbacks has been lapses in concentration that have led to goals being conceded, particularly sloppy defending at set-pieces. The responsibility for that doesn't just sit with those at the back but the entire team and, collectively, the players are desperate to remedy the problem. "It's crucial to try and keep clean sheets," said Steele. "I remember when we went to Cardiff, we put them under pressure but they didn't buckle and that makes all the difference. They got the points and we didn't. We just have to cut out the unforced errors. …
