JAY BOTHROYD is confident he can compete for a place in the first team with new [pounds sterling]8million striker Loic Remy and play a part in keeping Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, writes Simon Johnson.

Bothroyd, who only returned from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday on January 2, made the most of a rare start for Rangers to score the winner in the FA Cup replay at West Brom last night. It was only his third goal for the club since joining on a free transfer from Cardiff in 2011 having made just 25 appearances under previous managers Neil Warnock and Mark Hughes.

But with Harry Redknapp now in charge and Djibril Cisse set to be sent out on loan, the 30-year-old hopes he can make a bigger impact.
