Avoid Snakes at All Costs; Summer Is the Time When Deadly Reptiles Are More Likely to Bite

BE CAREFUL as you head outdoors to enjoy the summer sunshine; just remember you are not the only one doing so.

As the weather warms up, snakes are also starting to go on the move.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) spokesman Lawrence Orel said the warmer months are notorious times for snake bites.

Mr Orel is encouraging Clarence Valley residents to stay alert when out and about, especially in rural areas and to always watch out for the reptiles.

aAs the weather heats up, people are becoming more active and are spending more time outside in their backyards and the local beaches. However snakes become more active in the warmer weather too. a Mr Orel said.

aSnakes are very good at detecting a personas approach because they can feel the vibrations in the ground. Often they will move out of the way and wonat be seen by the person when they arrive.

aIf you see a snake, the easiest and the safest thing to do is to stop any activity youare doing, stand completely still and let the snake move away. …
