IN Mackay and the Whitsundays weare surrounded by sun, surf, bush, beaches, forests and freeways.

Whether we want to spend a day sprawled on a towel on golden sand, wetting our line in the hope of taking some fresh reef fish home for tea, camping under eucalypts by a flowing creek or packing up the car and hitting the open road a the best of life is ours to enjoy each and every day.

We probably take this lifestyle for granted, but to millions of other people around the globe, the freedom, leisure and sheer beauty of our Australian way of life is an idealistic and faraway daydream.

Australia Day is a day when all of us are reminded of how very lucky we are to be living the dream.

Itas a day when we pull out our best pluggers, slap on some sunscreen, fire up the barbecue or pack the car and head for the beach in a united celebration of what it means to live in a country where our kids are still free to dream big and you can still count on the neighbours to trim the edges of your side of the driveway while theyare doing theirs. …
