Widgee Set for Australia Day Fun; Cow Pat and Share a Traditional Day of Celebration

COMMUNITY Complex Committee members are looking forward to catering for the crowds tomorrow at their Widgee-style Australia Day celebrations.

Kicking off at 10am the fun runs through until 4pm and with some of the more elegant Aussie games on the menu, itas sure to be a fun day for the entire family.

Come along in your favourite Aussie gear ready to enjoy some thong tossing, cow pat throwing, giant tug-of-war, twister, giant snakes and ladders and more.

With snow cones for the kids and sausages sizzling on the barbie itas a day for the whole community to enjoy and keep the flag flying in our very own traditional, unique Australian style.

Indoor bowls

WITH 12 members attending, it needed all three mats on the floor and those audacious Widgee players quickly got on with business and the games began in earnest.

This week it was Jeanette taking an early lead and finishing the day with a well-earned 49 points. Russell made second place with 46 while Bruce was third with 45 and Marilyn K took fourth place with 44 points.

Mondayas public holiday wonat see the members miss out as play will be held at the usual time in the Memorial Hall, from 9am-noon.

Craft group

IT WAS out with the scrapbooking paraphernalia this week as members made all manner of greeting and birthday cards for their ain-housea supply.

Ably assisted by Karen Wells, the women produced a quantity of very professional looking cards and were mightily pleased with their efforts.

Elsewhere it was UFOs (aka unfinished objects) while chatting in the cool.

Next week might see the local fire brigade arrive as members try their hand at wood burning.

While tutor Alice Burke is very capable and experienced there is always the chance of over-heating the equipment so itall be fire blankets and extinguishers at the ready.

Pony club

MEMBERS and supporters of Widgee & Districts Pony Club will hold their annual general meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday, February 21 in the Bushmanas Bar at the Widgee Showgrounds.

Widgee school

PARENTS are reminded of the new parking outside the Widgee State School.

Lines have not been completed at this stage but angle parking is now the norm.

Please take care and look out for children, and remember the school speed zones will again take effect from Tuesday morning.
