I'M stepping up my training for the New York Half Marathon, which I'm doing for Diabetes UK and James Cook University Hospital on March 17.

And, as it stands, I'll be running it in a Sunderland kit. We hatched a bit of a fun idea on the Three Legends that I'd wear the colours of the North-east club whose fans sponsor me the most money.

And at the moment, it's looking like red and white stripes for me as Black Cats supporters have been digging the deepest and fair play to them, it's much appreciated.

But I'd love to be wearing a Boro kit on the big day, especially as it's a cause close to my heart, and James Cook Hospital is on our doorstep.

My 14-year-old son Ryan has been diagnosed with type one diabetes, which is the most serious form.

I'm not doing the run for sympathy, I'm doing it to try and help both a national and local cause after doing my bit for other charities in the past. …
