WHEN I was deciding what to cook for this weekas column I had in mind that it was going to be a super busy couple of weeks with quite a few 12-hour shifts and packing to move thrown in.

Something easy, I thought to myself. Well whatas easier than some delicious homemade sausage rolls (apart from buying them of course)?

Because I have a 45-minute commute to work I sometimes stay at a colleagueas house a little closer to the office. I get a free bed for the night and she gets a free meal cooked for her.

I love cooking for her because she generally gets excited about anything, tells me how delicious it is and then spreads the word among our other workmates a itas a pretty good ego boost.

Likewise, when the food-fails occur (and there have been a few) she is equally nice.

Well this was the case when I served up my burnt and horrible sausage rolls. …
