EQUESTRIAN: Jockey and Gympie Regional Council Australia Day Senior Sports Award nominee Desiree Gill spent yesterday morning listening to the rain fall on the roof of her home as she recovered from three broken bones in her lower back.

With a wheat pack soothing her injured back, tough-as-nails Gill said from home yesterday that she was on the mend from what could have been a much worse accident.

Gill was in the gates at Caloundraas Corbould Park racetrack yesterday as she waited for a start onboard two-year-old mount Ten to Life.

The filly, who was about to take the first official start of her career, ducked her head just before the gates opened and Gill tumbled over the mount at the start and on to the track in front.

The horse then ran over the top of the helpless jockey.

Gill said it felt like the horse had eight legs and every one of them got her on its way over. …
