WHEN Commander Andrew Quinn joined the Australian navy he was the third Quinn boy to sign up.

C[pounds sterling]I went through St PatrickCOs College then followed my brothersCO footsteps in 1988,C[yen] Cmdr Quinn said.

Today he will be honoured with a Commendation for Distinguished Service for his role in warlike operations as the commanding officer of HMAS Toowoomba during Operation Slipper in 2011.

C[pounds sterling]ICOm very thrilled and very honoured. I feel quite humble that out of my whole team I was selected,C[yen] Cmdr Quinn said.

The former Mackay resident said the honour was the result of a lot of hard work from his entire company.

The award recognises Cmdr QuinnCOs leadership of the HMAS Toowoomba in achieving an outstanding outcome for the operation, his contribution to the protection of life and security at sea, particularly through operations aimed at terrorism, piracy and other illegal activities. …
