HIGH PRAISE FOR SCHOOL; Archbishop Hails Tees Academy's Success in 10th Anniversary Year

THE ARCHBISHOP of York celebrated the success of a Middlesbrough academy on a visit to the school.

Dr John Sentamu visited Unity City Academy (UCA) to commemorate its 10th year and to celebrate its best-ever GCSE results.

He toured the academy, attended lessons and spoke to pupils, staff and members of the local community in an assembly as well as unveiling a plaque.

The school also revealed they have created a Dr Sentamu trophy which will be awarded to children for their work in the community.

Dr Sentamu said: "Unity City Academy has been through some difficulty in the past but it has now become the most improved school in Middlesbrough. That is not a mean achievement.

"They have done wonders here and it is a pleasure to have seen for myself what they have done here.

"People should be very proud of that."

" The academy, on Ormesby Road, will celebrate its 10thPRIDE: Principal Patricia anniversary with a series of events. Towey The class of 2012 also achieved the best-ever GSCE results to date, making it the highest-performing cohort in the history of UCA and of its predecessor schools. As a result, UCA is now the most improved school in Middlesbrough.

In GCSE results, 47% of students achieved five A*-C grades including English and maths, nearly doubling 2011's result, with 98% achieving five A* - C grades overall.

More students than ever also achieved the higher A and B grades. …
