No Change to Overall Season Points after Cancellation

YAMBA Surf Life Saving Club Carl Schaeffer memorial handicap surf swims were cancelled over the long weekend because of the climatic and ocean conditions

There was no change to the overall season points score which, with February, March and April swims remaining, is led by Jorden Elabbasi 55 points from Noah Hodgson 49, Kealy Day 47, Ben Plunkett 43, Scott Greensill 41, Sean Leonard 39, Thomas Dougherty 34 and Charlie Bindon 29 points.

The monthly mug winner for November/December was Kealy Day with 26 points from Noah Hodgson 18,

Sean Leonard 18, Angus O'Mahony 17, Jorden Elabbasi 16, Peter Rheinberger 15 Scott Greensill 14,

Dubbo Lawrence 14, Thomas Dougherty 13 and Martin Dougherty 12 points

The January monthly mug winner was Will Brighton with 20 points from Charlie Bindon 15, Jorden Elabbasi 11, Caitlin O'Mahony 11, Harry Fahey 10, Sean Leonard 10 and Ben Plunkett 10 points

Handicapper Belinda Sanders cannot recall a season where the overall point score has been so close without a clear cut leader.

aAt this stage in the season anyone can win with a single race likely to make a significant change to the leaderboard.

aI suggest consistency and constant participation is the best advice for anyone hungry enough to want the prestigious title.

aThe 2012/13 season winner will follow in the footsteps of greats like Geoff aSleepya Sanders and current club captain Joe Dougherty.

The next swim will be this Sunday at Main Beach with registration on the front steps of the clubhouse from 11am and a start at 11.30am

Yamba members Hugh Dougherty and Alyce Bennett competed in the third round of the Kelloggas Nutri-Grain ironman series at Portsea, Victoria, on Sunday.

Hugh was sixth in the first race but suffered a dislocated shoulder and was unable to take any further part in the three-event competition while Alyce was 12th and 13th in her races.

Further rounds on February 9 (Gold Coast), February 17 (Coolum) and February 24 (Noosa) will be televised live on the Channel 10 network.

The Yamba SLSC nippers return to the beach this Sunday with the final 2012/13 season activity day and club presentation on March 10. …
