MORE than 30 Sunshine Coast rural fire service personnel are on the ground in Bundaberg providing valuable assistance to those in need.

The contingent arrived in Bundaberg on Thursday and has been washing out flood-hit homes.

With most of the town still affected, Rural Fire Service Inspector Geoff Keating said efforts to help locals was tough going.

aWe are heavily restricted at the moment as the northern side of town was severely hit by the floods,a he said.

aOur crews have many different roles, from office work to lifting people out of the water, but our main job is to wash out the flood-affected properties.a

People who lived on the northern side of the town returned to their homes only yesterday.

Insp Keating said he expected an influx of work once people returned to their properties and the damaged assessed.

aThere are still so many people here in town that havenat even been home yet and they donat know what theyare in for,a he said. …
