THE sand training track at Ballina is in a mess and Ballina Jockey Club and trainers based at the track are getting desperate.

Two years ago the club submitted a proposal to Racing NSW, costed at $180,000, to fix the track and the club was told the submission had been approved.

However, nothing has happened and constant inquiries to Racing NSW by the club keep drawing a blank.

The course proper is in great shape courtesy of a rejuvenation program which started immediately after the last meeting on January 20.

That plus rain and hot, humid weather has produced a thick grass cover but use of the track for gallops has to be restricted or there wonCOt be a racing surface left for the matinee meeting on February 23.

C[pounds sterling]We know the sand track is in a mess and we are trying to get some funding to fix it but we are getting nowhere,C[yen] club president Dr Bob Jemison said.

C[pounds sterling]Ballina is a regional training centre yet we keep getting ignored.

Board from waiting

WHILE on the subject of unfulfilled promises, Ballina was assured two years ago it would get a new semaphore board to replace the old one which gave up a long time ago.

Coffs Harbour Racing Club was promised one four years ago.

Still nothing has happened.

Finances under review

BALLINACOS finances have come under scrutiny with an auditor from Racing NSW completing a review of the books.

Bob Jemison has welcomed the audit, saying it might give Racing NSW a better understanding of the clubCOs problems.
