A MAN has pleaded guilty to brutally raping a teenager who was out in Newcastle on a night out.

The 17-year-old victim had been out in the city with friends when she was savagely attacked near the Old Assembly Rooms.

Edward Raymond Fowler yesterday admitted raping the girl and was further remanded in custody.

A second man, Darren Wayne Carr, also pleaded guilty to raping the teenager but denied a second count of rape against the same victim.

Turning to Carr, the judge said: "The prosecution are going to consider your plea of not guilty and decide whether to go to trial or not in relation to that count."

Carr will be brought back to Newcastle Crown Court next week to hear if prosecutors will proceed on the second rape charge. …
