A PAEDOPHILE who disappeared for three months on the Fraser Coast has received a prison sentence equal to the time he was missing.

The man, who cannot be identified, pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to failing to comply with his reporting conditions under the Child Protection Act.

He was supposed to keep police informed of his whereabouts ever since receiving a prison sentence of four and a half years in the Brisbane District Court for carnal knowledge and indecent treatment of a minor, who was a family member of his.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Nicole Kunkel said officers checked the manas last known address in Hervey Bay at the start of August last year, only to find he had moved out of the home.

The resident of the address did not know where the man had gone. The man was eventually found purely by chance.

A police patrol intercepted a car in Point Vernon on October 29 for a random licence check, and found the driver was the missing paedophile. …
