WHEN the siren rang out over Browne Park to signal full time on Saturday night, CQ Capras coach Jason Hetherington couldnat wipe the smile off his face.

It was the best possible start to the 2013 season that the Central Queensland Capras could have asked for and with a clean sweep in all divisions, the Capras certainly left their mark on rivals Mackay.

In a treble at Browne Park, the under-16 Capras kicked off the night with a 14-4 victory over the Mackay Cutters squad in the Cyril Connell Cup before the Capras under-18 side followed in their footsteps, taking down the Cutters 34-28 in the Mal Meninga Cup.

But it was the much anticipated Intrust Super Cup trial match that left fans smiling from ear to ear with the Capras locking in a 30-16 win over the Cutters.

Capras utility Gavin Hiscox said he could certainly feel the fitness among his teammates and would take confidence from the win.

aIt was pretty tough, our fitness was really good, I felt pretty fit out there so I was happy with that,a Hiscox said.

aYou get a fair bit out of it (winning the game) I think a lot of the younger fellas will get a lot out of it but we have another tough task next week with the Broncos and theyall be a lot more drilled and probably a lot fitter so weare just going to keep working on our game plan.a

Hetherington praised Hiscox for his performance and said he couldnat have been prouder of the entire squad.

aI was very proud of the boys,a Hetherington said. aObviously being a trial and with the changes and a little bit of lack of cohesion there a few times, I was that proud of their commitment and their attitude towards the game and probably the most pleasing thing for me, besides their commitment, was the score at the end.

aGavinas had a bit of a disrupted week with shin problems but his effort tonight was outstanding. …
