A RECORD number of nominations for this Saturdayas Eidsvold Cup meeting illustrate the benefits of the $1 million extra funding for country racing provided by the LNP government this season. With base prizemoney for all of the smaller country clubs being boosted to $6000 a race, owners and trainers have responded with 62 horses nominated for Eidsvoldas five-race card on Saturday. With the available QTIS money for the maiden included, total prizemoney at Eidsvold is $35,000 with the 1350m Vincents Chartered Accountants Eidsvold Cup of $7000. Free admission

WITH free admission and a complimentary drink for all racegoers, a crowd record could also be set at Eidsvold. Sponsorship by the Qld Gas Company has enabled the club to offer the free admission with the day nominated as a Flood Recovery Event for the hard-hit North Burnett area.

Another Gympie trained galloper, Metaphysical, which was fourth in the Gympie Cup, is weighted at 57kg for the trophy race drawing 11 nominations. Harney (to be ridden by 3kg claimer Chelsea Jokic) was a promising fourth at Caloundra at his last outing and should be in top form with three runs back from a spell, under his belt.

Agent Blue wins

THE Peter Fleming raced and trained Agent Blue, produced a very courageous effort to win at Mackay on Tuesday. The Frisco View a Blueberry Su six-year-old looked beaten in the straight when headed by the $3 favourite, So Pretentious, but fought back under vigorous riding from Kelvin Wharton to stave off all challengers to win by a short neck in the 1100m Open. …
