Dembele Thirsting for Goals after Ending Drought

LYON 1 tottenham 1 Tottenham win 3-2 on aggregate i NEARLY six months have passed since Mousa Dembele scored on his Tottenham debut. Between that game, against Norwich, and last night's at Lyon, there were 25 matches in which Dembele failed to score, writes Tom Collomosse.

Dembele was brought to Spurs as a midfielder, not a forward, and at times this season he has excelled in the centre for his new club. Yet last night's moment of brilliance, which took Tottenham into the last 16 of the Europa League, was the high point of his short career at White Hart Lane.

It is vital for Spurs that the Belgian continues to climb. Sometimes, players need to make a decisive contribution to convince themselves of their importance to the team. Dembele appears a relaxed character to whom football comes easily but his goal proves that, apart from Gareth Bale, he can be Spurs' most dangerous attacking player. If the 25-year-old can add consistency to the outstanding quality he possesses, it will drive Tottenham towards success both in the Premier League and in Europe. …
