Future of Terriers Still Hanging in the Balance

THE future of a Northumberland football club still hangs in the balance. Bedlington Terriers faced a winding-up hearing yesterday over thousands of pounds of unpaid debts.

But a judge adjourned the hearing for at least two weeks after lawyers representing the team argued that the wrong party was being chased for the money.

The proceedings were launched against the limited company connected to the club, rather than the club association, it was said.

The court heard that the limited company had only taken over in the 2012/13 season, after the debts were already in place, and so they are not liable for them.

But as the evidence was only put forward at the last moment, the District Judge adjourned his decision until Choppington-based Trystar Construction Ltd, who served the winding-up order, had been given time to look into the issue.

Bedlington Terriers, who reached a Wembley cup final 14 years ago, are around PS15,000 in debt to the firm and it is understood they will be forced to close if it is shown they cannot repay the money. …
