GATESHEAD HC's under-16s were the only team in action at the weekend due to the wintry weather.

They travelled to Harrogate with a number of players not available due to county commitments.

Despite that, they drew 1-1 with their hosts and followed that with a 2-2 score against Wakefield and a 1-1 result against Doncaster.

The match against secondplaced Harrogate started slowly, both sides looking for scoring opportunities.

Harrogate opened the scoring against the run of play when the Gateshead defence was caught on the break.

Gateshead continued to probe the Harrogate rearguard in looking for the equaliser and levelled when Sorsby found Overman at the far post.

Against Wakefield, Gateshead were punished for poor defensive work as the West Yorkshire boys took a 2-0 lead.

However, Gateshead's midfield started to take more control and a point was salvaged with two goals in the last two minutes.

The Doncaster clash proved a tricky and open game for Gateshead, with both side cancelling themselves out in the midfield area. …
