Rain Causes More Road Damage; Work Finished before Deluge

Article excerpt

MORE torrential rain for our district has resulted in more damage to roads and properties.

Due to the saturation of the ground from the previous falls, landslips seem to be more prevalent.

People trying to return to their homes have told tales of trying several different routes to avoid going through floodwaters. Many others just didnat bother or gave up, and stayed with family or friends.

The bus servicing Noosa District State High School from the hinterland areas of Cooran and Kin Kin has been unable to run for several days due to the flooded bridge at Six Mile Creek on the Pomona-Kin Kin Rd.

If these rain events are going to be more frequent, perhaps it is time for authorities to look at sealing the roads of Jampot Creek and Kellehers a as these are the only way of getting from Cooran and Kin Kin to Pomona for provisions.

Even then, it is still not possible to get from Kin Kin to Cooran when Six Mile Creek at Cooran is flooded, but the waters there fall much quicker than those on the bridge on Pomona-Kin Kin Rd.

Congratulations are due to the road crews who were quickly out on the a[approximately]flood roada last week after that rain, rolling and putting down some gravel trying to make it passable.

Meetings continue

THE series of de-amalgamation meetings continued across the old Noosa Shire area over the past week.

Unfortunately a lot of people were not able to attend because of flooding.

Voting on de-amalgamation will be held on Saturday, March 9. Voting is compulsory for all eligible citizens. Pre-polling booths have been set up at three points: Cooroy RSL and Citizens Memorial Bowls Club, 5 Opal St, Cooroy; Noosa area returning officeras office, ECOM Noosa, 95 Eumundi Rd, Noosaville; Peregian Beach Community House, 255 David Low Wy, Peregian Beach.

Pre-polling is open until 6pm on Friday, March 8. Polling booths will then be open in every town around the district on voting day, March 9.

The question we are being asked to vote on is: aShould a Noosa Shire Council be created by the de-amalgamation of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council local government area, with the costs to be met by the Noosa Shire Council? …
