CHRISTIANS believe God made us in his own image, that we are all immensely valuable in his sight and that JesusCOs death and redemption of humanity underlines the value God places on each and every one of us.

Being made in the image of God doesnCOt mean we are always good. Far from it! But it does mean that we are able to make moral decisions and choose the sort of life we wish to lead.

A further consequence of being made in GodCOs image is that we are also invited to share eternal life after death, either in heaven with God or separated from him in hell.

After the horrors of two world wars, the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1945 proclaimed its Universal Declaration of Human Rights to help prevent such atrocities and injustices in the future. Each signatory country has pledged to observe the declaration.

The articles agreed upon cover an enormous range of personal rights and freedoms, international concerns to do with security, freedom of movement and association, the individualCOs right to an adequate education, the rights of women and obligations of citizenship Co all legitimate areas for reflection by GodCOs people. …
