DEDICATED Ipswich driver Ash Walsh has little time to relax after making a near-perfect start to this yearCOs Dunlop Series.

Walsh was back at work yesterday after winning his first race and finishing third in the second part of the weekend series in Adelaide.

Racing his Ford FG Falcon in the competition below the V8 Supercars, Walsh enjoyed his first podium success for the Matt Stone Racing team.

C[pounds sterling]It was really good,C[yen] the Yamanto-based motorsport ace said.

C[pounds sterling]We can only take one round at a time but all the signs are good.C[yen]

WalshCOs third place finish on Sunday came after SaturdayCOs win.

That consistent effort left Walsh second overall (279 points) behind early series leader Chaz Mostert (288), with Dale Wood third (267).

In his second full season of the Dunlop Series, Walsh said a first-up win was a confidence boost and reward for the hard work by him and his team.

C[pounds sterling]For me, itCOs just being better organised in the off-season,C[yen] Walsh, 25, said.

C[pounds sterling]The last couple of years weCOve been struggling to find budget, to do the season and last-minute deals. Whereas this year, weCOve run the same team and the same engineer which helps.

C[pounds sterling]WeCOve worked together before.C[yen]

Walsh said having a major Ipswich-based sponsor in InfantsCO Friend eased the financial pressure.

C[pounds sterling]ItCOs great to have them on the car as a title sponsor and to be able to reward them with such a good result,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]It costs a lot of money to do the championships.C[yen]

The Ipswich-born sportsman had little time to celebrate his breakthrough victory.

He returned to work in Toowoomba yesterday doing his mobile electrical contract work.

Walsh will work all week before heading off to New Zealand for the second round of the separate SuperTourers Championship. …
