GYMPIE State High School graduate Jack Findlay has started a degree in civil engineering a step ahead of the rest after receiving a $5000 industry-sponsored scholarship from the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The former Dagun resident was awarded the Les and Mary Hall Family Scholarship in Engineering, which is presented each year by Sunshine Coast-based civil engineering firm Hall Contracting Pty Ltd.

Jack was one of four students from Gympie to receive scholarships at the universityas annual Undergraduate Scholarships Presentation Ceremony in mid-February.

The 17-year-old said he was thrilled to have been selected as the sole recipient of this annual award.

aI feel very lucky to receive it and I definitely think it gives me an added edge as a first-year student by getting to know experts in the field,a he said.

aThe funds from the scholarship are obviously a great help for ongoing study costs but the biggest benefit will be the number of industry contacts and connections I have made through Hall Contracting. …
