PERSEVERANCE is paying off for Charlie Northfield after one of his charges racked up another notable win at the most recent Lismore race night.

Knocka Jess underlined her reputation as one to watch on the regionas tracks with victory in the $1750 Lismore Buccaneers Touch Stakes (420m) at Tuesdayas meeting.

It was a fifth win from 10 outings for the two-year-old, whose racing career was thrown into doubt when she was seriously injured during her maiden race last year.

Stratheden trainer Northfield said he had been pleasantly surprised by the successful return of his charge.

The brindle racer spent eight months on the sidelines after breaking three bones in a foot while winning her maiden race at Casino in May last year.

After returning in January, the racer has racked up some impressive results, including a hat-trick of wins in a week at Armidale and Lismore. …
