Long Road to Repairs; RAIN DAMAGE: Will Take Months to Fix Roadways

WET weather is causing long-lasting damage in Tweed and the Tweed Shire Council is feeling the pinch.

aAll local governments are feeling the effects of unprecedented weather events,a Acting Mayor Michael Armstrong said.

aWeare working closely with the State Government to fix the problems.a

The council has submitted an application for disaster relief funding for roads.

aThis is being assessed by the Roads and Maritime Services,a a council spokeswoman said.

aTo date, emergency works and urgent items have been approved as required.a

It is unlikely we will see any long-term repairs soon as an inspection wonat happen until the end of the month or early next month.

aAn inspection with RMS assessing officer is anticipated late March/early April,a the spokeswoman said.

aApproval to commence restoration works using natural disaster funding would be expected within the month after RMS assessment is completed. …
