Carver Not Arf Glad to Have Hatem Back in the Ranks

NEWCASTLE United assistant manager John Carver has hailed the return of "maverick" Hatem Ben Arfa.

The French star is back from a hamstring injury and is hoping to play a part in Sunday's Premier League home encounter with Stoke City.

Ben Arfa's last appearance on Tyneside was the ill-fated 1-1 draw with Maritimo when the Toon ace picked up a hamstring injury.

Now, though, he is looking forward to hooking up with Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy.

Carver told the Chronicle: "Can you imagine him being in a team with Cisse, Gouffran, Sissoko and Cabaye? "It would put the fear of God into many teams.

"I think we have exciting times ahead."

Ben Arfa is classed as a special player but must work hard to get a place in the starting line-up.

However, Carver said: "He fits into that bracket. Teams are starting to be aware of how good he is.

"No matter if he plays on the left or the right or the number 10 role - he can play anywhere - teams will be concerned about him. …
