Errors at Back Could Leave Us with Nothing, Admits Cesar

CESAR AZPILICUETA admits Chelsea must improve defensively if they are to have a hope of salvaging some success from their troubled season.

Chelsea have kept a clean sheet only six times in their last 20 games and two of those were against lower League opposition, Brentford and Middlesbrough, in the FA Cup.

The FA Cup and Europa League are the only two trophies the club can win this term but their defensive woes, particularly against the counter attack, have put their chances at risk.

Chelsea were consistently caught out on the break during the 1-0 defeat by Steaua Bucharest in first leg of their last 16 Europa League tie last week. They also had to battle back from going 2-0 down inside 11 minutes against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday to earn a replay.

Azpilicueta (right) admits their defending at United exposed a worrying trend and said: "It's true that it is one mistake we are making many times and we need to stop it. …
