A MAN who hid a loaded shotgun at his home is today behind bars.

Anthony Coady was arrS ested when police swooped on his house in Walker, Newcastle, last November.

Officers spent more than 36 hours searching the property on Ada Street and found a loaded shotgun inside.

Today, as Coady, 43, begins a five-year jail term, detectives have welcoS med the sentence and vowed to continue working to keep guns off the streets.

Det Cons Dave Croskery, of Northumbria Police, said: "We treat all firearms offences extremely seriously and this sentence should send out the message that anyone who is in possession of a firearm and ammunition can expect to face time in prison. We'll continue to do everything possible to act on information we receive about crime and disorder in the community and ensure those believed to be responsible are put before the courts for their actions."
