MONDAY is set to be the best day of the week for the footballing girls at Laurence Jackson School.

They travel to Burton Albion to play in the final of the English School's FA Cup.

The Guisborough Under-16 girls earned their big day by beating Beckett School, Nottingham, 5-3 in the semi-final, with Koredye Akintoye scoring four times.

They have reached the semi-final several times, but this is the first time they have progressed to the final.

They had to win seven rounds to reach the final, and the semi-final game was the toughest of the lot against one of the best teams in the country.

Early pressure resulted in a Sophie Newlove goal for Beckett School.

The home side responded immediately, with a defencesplitting pass sending Akintoye racing clear to slide the ball past the keeper.

Laurence Jackson continued to press home their advantage, quickly adding two more goals from Sophie Warnes and another cool finish from Akintoye. …
