LAIDLEY is poised to complete its 2012-13 grand slam after the first two days of the Ipswich Logan Premier League grand final.

With 266 runs on the board batting first, the Blue Dogs had Brothers 7-160 at the half-way point of the four-day final at Baxter Oval.

When Laidley was reduced to 6 -124, Brothers would have felt the match was there for the taking.

That was before the 81-run partnership for the seventh wicket between captain Chris Wilson (62) and fast bowler Ben Gibson (63), who chose the perfect time to make his maiden top grade half-century.

They continued tormenting Brothers into day two and by the time the Blue Dogs were all out, Brothers had spent130 taxing overs in the field.

Brothers needed a good start in reply but had both openers back in the sheds with only 15 runs on the board, with Jacob Sarra (1) and Tim Leschke (7) both dismissed by left-arm all-rounder Michael Sippel.

That brought Raj Sharma and Luke Dixon together and the pair set about making amends with a 64-run stand, before Sharma was out for 41, caught by Jason Cubit at slip off the spin bowling of his brother Byron.

Dixon was rated by Sippel as by far BrothersCO best batter and he was joined by Craig Cumming after SharmaCOs dismissal.

The pair looked comfortable until a mix-up resulted in Dixon being run out for 52.

Cumming cut the ball behind point and called a run, before sending back Dixon, who slipped as he turned and was left stranded.

Dwyer rated it the turning point of the afternoon and Gibson agreed it was a crucial moment in the match.
