A TYNESIDE nightclub may have to close earlier in the night following complaints from police and residents over excessive noise.

Powerhouse, on Westmorland Road, Newcastle, can hold 1,128 people on its four floors and describes itself as the biggest gay nightclub in the North East.

It has a drinks licence until 4am - but clubbers can stay on until 6am for event nights once a fortnight.

But mum Kim Patel says the excessive noise in every room in her flat, sometimes until 5.30am, is ruining her life.

In a letter to noise watchdogs, she says: "Very often my daughter will say, 'Mummy, why don't you smile?' All I can tell her is that I am too tired to smile."

Kim, who lives in neighbouring Waterloo Street's Centralofts, wants council licensing chiefs to order Powerhouse to shut its doors at 2am.

She says she is fed up with drunks screaming and singing and fighting in the street.

In Kim's letter, she says: "Over the time that I have lived here I have been constantly woken up by this noise night after night. …
