POLITICS is a tough school and could not have been much tougher for first year government student, Gympie MP David Gibson.

His School of Hard Knocks introduction included a schoolyard scrap and a knock down blow that drove him from the Ministry to the backbench for driving unlicensed a a serious enough matter for anyone, especially one who was Police Minister when the issue became public.

But young Gibson stuck with it and applied himself, even in the knowledge that this would obviously have a bad effect on his end of year results.

This week, looking at the Newman Governmentas first year in office, he gave himself a pass and the Newman Government a distinction for meeting all its announced goals.

aPersonally Iave had my ups and downs.

aWhat Iave learned from these experiences is that Iam far more resilient than I would have believed.

aGetting back on the job of representing the people of Gympie was a lot easier thanks to the incredible support shown by the local community, not just for me but for my whole family. …
