CONTEMPORARY music students at Southern Cross University were treated to a songwriting workshop on Thursday by someone who has a fair bit of knowledge in the field a Australian singer-songwriter, Mia Dyson.

The ARIA award-winning artist was on hand to impart some songwriting wisdom to a group of music students.

Mia said she picked up a guitar at the age of 14, after having played piano before that, but she didnat begin writing her own songs for another two years.

aI didnat catch on that you could write your own songs for the first couple of years. It just didnat occur to me. I donat know what I thought all these other songwriters were doing,a she said.

Conducting the workshop was something she was looking forward to.
