Kayakers Get Set for Three-Day Adventure

NEXT week the Wilsons River will come alive with about 50 kayakers expected to enter the Paddle for Life fundraiser to Ballina.

With proceeds going towards Southern Cross LADS and Summerland Early Intervention, the paddlers will set off from Lismore next Saturday morning arriving in Ballina on Monday.

Event co-ordinator Narina Donnelly, from the Far North Coast Canoeing Club based in Lismore, said the paddle, now in its 11th year, was fully catered for and anyone with a good kayak and aa bit of fitnessa could enter.

aWe start here at 8am and paddle down to Wyrallah where we have lunch, and then we paddle on to Coraki and camp at the caravan park,a she said.

aThe next day we go to Woodburn and have lunch there, then we go to a private property at Broadwater and camp there, then the next day we go onto Riverview Park at Ballina for a barbeque.a

Fitter kayakers keen for a bit of competition can also enter the Cliff Weaver Memorial Classic a a 39 kilometre race over the first leg of the paddle to Coraki starting at 11am from Lismore. …
