A PLASTIC toy sparked the violent brawl during a rugby league trial match between the Cowboys and the Titans in Mackay.

One group of men was playing with plastic hand clappers, and another group wanted them to stop.

Marlon Matthew Hita, 19, and his brothers were playing with the novelty items during the NRL game at Virgin Australia Stadium on February 23, prosecutor Errica Fforde said.

A fight broke out when a nearby group of men tried to take the toys off Hita and his brothers.

Ms Fforde said Hita was the main instigator in relation to C[pounds sterling]the violent disturbanceC[yen].

Police were quick to respond and break up the fight, after which Hita and his brothers, Nathan Matthew William Hita, 25, and Shannon Matthew Hita, 23, began fighting with police. Nathan and Shannon have already pleaded guilty to charges of public nuisance and obstructing police.

Marlon Hita had originally indicated a not guilty plea, at two earlier court mentions, to serious assault and assault against police and public nuisance. …
