Apprentice Training Change Opposed

The Grafton Technical Education Committee last night decided to advise the Department of Technical Education that a proposed block release system for apprentice training involving periods of from five to eight weeks continuous tuition would not be a success in the majority of country districts.

The decision was made on a letter from the department seeking the committeeas opinion of the block release scheme as proposed in the part-time weekly or fortnightly apprentice training under the present system.

Jacaranda Festival Womenas Auxiliary

The Jacaranda Festival Committee last night finalised plans for calling a meeting to form a womenas auxiliary for the festival.

The meeting will be convened by the president, Arthur Robinson on May 14.

Mr. Robinson said that already there had been an enthusiastic response to the suggestion and he was convinced it would be a tremendous benefit to the festival as a whole. …
