ALMOST 70 healthcare workers on the Sunshine Coast have surrendered their positions at local public hospitals after the corporate restructure of Queensland Health.

In September, Health Minister Lawrence Springborg announced 2754 redundancies would be made across the state by March 31.

As a result, the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service was required to reduce staffing by 110 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions.

SCHHS chief executive Kevin Hegarty said the health service was on target to meet its budget and FTE staffing targets.

aStaff-initiated efficiencies, innovation and workforce redesign have helped to reduce the number of actual positions while still being on track to meet targets,a he said.

aThe organisation has also been able to reduce its overall staffing numbers by not filling vacant positions and reducing the use of temporary and casual employees.

aIn addition, more than 68 staff have requested a voluntary redundancy. …
