IPSWICH rugby league is in mourning after the passing of football matriarch Sandra Walters.

Mrs Walters was the mother of local football legends Kerrod, Kevin, Steve, Andrew and Brett, and a well loved figure in town.

She moved to East Ipswich from Rockhampton with her late husband, Kevin Snr, when their twins, Kerrod and Kevin, were two years old.

She died peacefully on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday. She was 73. Kerrod Walters said she would be missed by a loving family.

aWe were all very proud of her,a he said. aPeople always said to her how proud she must be of us, but to tell the truth we were more proud of her. She was very witty and very funny, even on her last day she was cracking jokes.a

Her husband Kevin Snr passed away in 2010 at the age of 71.

Mrs Walters was a well-known figure around Ipswich and especially at Swifts football club where her sons played junior rugby league. …
