MURWILLUMBAH Hospitalas emergency department is expected to be one of the best in the state after a $1 million expansion was announced.

aThe NSW Government will spend $1 million to enhance the Murwillumbah Hospital emergency department,a Lismore MP Thomas George said.

aThis upgrade of the emergency department will make it one of the best performing in NSW.a

The expansion will see another seven beds added to the emergency department, which currently houses five.

The hospitalas emergency department physician Dr Paul Fischer said the upgrade had been needed for at least 15 years.

aOften we donat have anywhere to put our patients,a the doctor said.

aThere are just not enough beds.a

The floor space will be increased by 40% and it will house a new nurse station, which will have a full view of all of the patient beds, a safety feature Northern NSW Local Health District acting capital works manager Bob Miller said was essential. …
